I was going to write about something that bored me even more than this ridiculous debate over the taxonomic status of Pluto. Then it dawned on me that nothing bored me more than this topic. So … nevermind.

Lamentations on Chemistry 
It fascinates me only in the infighting and personality aspects. Once again, this shows that science is done by people with egos, emotions, personality quirks, et cetera.
What gets me is that the IAU voted on the status of Pluto. It gave people that impression that voting is of importance to science, AND consequently more merit to the IPCC report.
How about approaching it the way that scientists having been for the last few millenia: if it works, use it. If it doesn’t, don’t.
It’s the scientific equivalent to what economists call “dollar votes”. (Do they use dollar votes in Armenia?)
Scientist do have their share of quirks. If you want to hear about scientists oddities, just talk to their spouses.
