Software from Symyx

I was interested to learn that Symyx offers a chemical structure drawing package called Symyx Draw 3.1. Naturally, a company as deep into cheminformatics as Symyx is has much to offer in regard to data management. The company offers a large variety of software packages. Unfortunately, I was unable to get any pricing information straight off the web. They require that you contact them for a quotation. Having been in sales, I understand the reasons for this, but it is still less than convenient.

It would be interesting to hear from readers who have used Symyx Draw do a compare and contrast with ChemDraw.

Thanks. The Symyx site does refer to Isis, but I was a little unclear as to what the story was. I like Chemdraw, but they do need some real competition to keep prices in line.

Symyx Draw is finally an update to 10 year old IsisDraw. It has some nice features but is a LONG way from ever having the features and popularity of ChemDraw. One of Symyx Draws features that is new that I like is the All Purpose Drawing Tool. It does quite a lot of very nifty things in one tool.

As for pricing – ChemDraw can be had at steep discounts for previous versions, and academic discounts for current versions. ChemBioOffice Ultra is the flagship and comes with a lot of additoinal very useful software. Molecular modeling, Notebook, Subscription interface to chemical databases, and one of my favorite features a search engine that will search MS Office documents for embeded Chemistry that has been drawn with ChemDraw.
