Best wishes in your job search. I’ve been there and know the feeling. Been off work long? The trouble with chemistry is that it can only be done in institutions or corporatons. Outside of established organizations, it is hard to be a practicing chemist. One idea is to take the patent agent exam and work for a patent law firm. But you’d need a high tolerance for tediousness. Just an idea.
Haven’t been searching long; I’m just finishing up PhD now. I’m considering patent stuff; I’ve applied for something at the PTO, not sure how interested I’m in, but I’ll consider it definitely.
I’m the guy holding the cardboard sign begging for a job.

Oh good. I was afraid you’d been in a layoff. Best of luck, though. What is your specialty?
Nanomaterials/solid state; I work with magnetic semiconductors. Lot of PXRD, SEM, SQUID work.
