Interesting. I know two chemists and an engineer from my miniscule spheroid who have recently joined the marijuana extraction industry here in Colorado. Crimony, it makes me wonder what my problem is. Alright, it turns out that’s easy to explain. I really dig reaction chemistry and thermo, you know, real sciency stuff. Not much of that in the retail or wholesale extractives business. I have this suspicion that it will soon – if not already – be corporatized, IPO’d, and raced full throttle by scheming finance MBA’s like every other growth business. They can have it. Capitalism is like a stomach- it has no brain. All it can do is endlessly demand more.

I recently left the craft beer industry after 13 years in QA/QC. This seam to sum up the last 3-5 years of it’s development.
One of the main email forums used to be dominated by technical comments or questions about process, raw materials, etc. Now a majority of the traffic are folks seeking help with business plans and marketing advice.
Still not a bad industry to be a part of, but for some segments its is more boardroom than barroom.
About the statement..”Capitalism is like a stomach- it has no brain. All it can do is endlessly demand more.” Boy, how correct you are, and I do not want to sound political and am thinking of 0.1% of top 1%. Only the gentleman from Nebraska, voiced his concern that he would be making another 29 billion, after the tax cut went through morons. Their stomach is never half-empty.
