InBev Chugs St Louis Utility Beer Maker

It is surely a sign of the End Times. Just as sure as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and cats sleeping with dogs. A Belgian company buys Anheuser-Busch.  Wow.  Just the thought of it is too much for me to get my arms around. Michelob now has a kissin’ cousin named Stella Artois.

What was that old brain teaser an Austrian colleague once asked-

Can you name 10 famous Belgians?

I agree. It is a bit outrageous. I’m sure there are as many as 20 famous Belgians.

Who knows? This may be the European connection NASCAR has been looking for.  Watery beer, fast cars, and drunken hooligans. It’s universal.

It’s really sad to lose such an iconic and historical American company to a foreign investor. I think it’s time we really starting focusing on keeping American jobs and American companies here in the United States.

I’m a small business owner here in Saint Louis, and the economy nationally is hurting everyone – not this is definitely going to hurt at home. They have a website going I signed up at:

It’s a forum to share your ideas and opinions on the InBev buyout and to encourage people to buy from locally owned & operated businesses’.

No, let the Belgians take it all. Free trade and higher oil prices, tax cuts for the top 1% and bailouts for investment bank shareholders will solve our problems.

Mandatory US citizenship for all foreign scientists. Cut back on social services and raise salaries of CEOs, fight wars without end then use bankrupt US retirees as slave labor.

Oh, and give those American Chemical Society Execs a big pay raise!
They deserve it. It takes superhuman effort to spew bull-Sh*t all day.

    It all makes perfect sense.

Well, maybe that’s a good thing after all (leaving aside for a moment the broken american pride…). As an european, I always found our beers (and belgian in particular) to be generally superior to american ones (although I should try more of the latter, I’ll admit) – so, although Stella Artois is definitely not the best belgian beer, the move could help improve the taste of your Bud! (Please tell me if I have been totally inappropriate here 🙂 )

    Hi Zal,

European beers are much better than most American mass produced beers. I call them “utility” beers (and I agree that the Belgians make good beer). I doubt that the formula of Budweiser will see the slightest change. It has too much brand loyalty for them to monkey with the flavor.

There are many good beers from smaller producers in the states. One of my favorites is a local beer- Fat Tire from new Belgium Brewery. http://www.newbelgium.com/beers_ft.php
