Regarding the Great Wal-Mart Trampling, this should surprise only those who are isolated on the high income side of the bell curve. It is good to get out once in a while and visit truck stops and flea markets for a perspective adjustment.
I heard the Wal-Mart thing – a person in line ahead of me (at Target, WM’s smaller and (somewhat?) less evil twin) commented that there was someone stabbed at a WM in Marion (where the OH women’s prison is). Another person line said, “That happens everyday at a Wal-Mart somewhere.” That shouldn’t be surprising, and I guess considering how many people are in WM on a daily basis lots of bad things will happen.
I still have to wonder how much of the trampling is desperation and how much is selfishness and repudiation of humanity. I’m not as badly off as lots of people, but there isn’t anything I need badly enough to trample someone for it. Even if the guy next to me gets the last one.
