Was Abe Lincoln Wrong?

When I hear the  snide comments of Gingrich and Limbaugh or witness the rebirth of Tom DeLay, I begin to wonder if President Abraham Lincoln wasn’t mistaken in trying to keep the Union together. Southern Conservatism with its fanatical Baptist dominionist wingnut demographic has even perverted basic conservative values of thrift and small government. It’s expensive military fetish and its efficient marshaling of extreme nationalism have cast precious little light on the complex problems of our time, just a devisive heat.

The epoch of the “Bush II Wild-Assed Excursion in American Civilization” has lead to the present disintegration of the GOP from the Grand Old Party to the Confederate Splintered Old Party of serial filibustering demagogues.

Perhaps we should set aside a few states for the Southern Conservatives to set up a Confederacy where lassaiz faire and the Southern Baptist Convention can run unfettered in the shady green pastures of God’s marketplace. Hell, throw in Texas for good measure- except for Houston. Houston would be a independent city-state a la Hong Kong. Newt can be the new Jeff Davis of the Confederacy of Theocratic States.

Let the southern conservatives luv each other up in their own country. They can preach their sticky doctrine to a ready made choir all day long. It would be worth having a Republican Homeland seccession if it will shut the bastards up.

I don think that is going to work, maybe they will start to try to invade the northern states and also because they have more money invested on weapons the north will lose.

I can tell when someone has been drinking. Call it a superhuman skill I have acquired from many years of ardent practice. Since you’re in Vegas and the water flows like wine (actually it is water flavored wine), this has a liberating effect on some, while in others it invokes a spasm of prophecizing and mysticism.

    Exhibit A:

    Guns+Jesus+tax cuts+ big business don’t add up.

But they do if you pour enough money onto people’s brains. If you think the democrats are the solution you’re wrong. Obama answers to Citibank, Goldman Sachs and Bank of America.

    Exhibit B:

    Unions+high finance+ poor people+ Bailouts+ common man

    Don’t add up:

So you’ve discovered you live in a world where most people follow whatever flag happens to be in front of them. Unfortunately in this country you only get two to choose from.

When you pick up something heavy and lob it at these slobs, that’s the only time you’ll be able to make a difference.

I have to agree with Flannel. When I listen to news on those radio programs “all things distorted” and “morning sedition” I know if I chuckle a certain way, there will be a letter later in the week letting me know how off base the comment was.

I was howling as read your post this morning!

    peace and love gauss!

Actually, I haven’t consumed a drop of alcoholic beverages since my arrival.

    I love this line.

This was written only partially in jest. I would vote for seccession.

    Ciao baby.

We’d waste a lot of time subdividing ourselves and throwing weapons at one another. An internecine nuclear war in which at least one side chooses repeatedly to ignore physical, financial and moral realities and thinks it’s ordained by God is possibly and likely to be bad.

In addition, the reason the Pubs have been able to turn on their (alleged) principles is because a large part of the voting public likes it that way and is willing to vote accordingly. You can’t cure stupid, or self-destructive.

It is interesting to note that Tejas Governor Perry has been making “independence” noises to his low-information constituents. In jest no doubt, but it’s on the record now.
