The Bastille was a prison for aristrocrats. Rich prisoners had suites of rooms with catered food (purchased by the prisoner – hard times!). The Marquis de Sade was in there up until 10 days before the storming. He regularly feasted on truffles, sausages, and expensive wines – and had a coterie of dames amenable to his sexual appetites.
